Compass Executives are delighted to be hosting a Round Table with HealthInvestor discussing “Leading from the front: the importance of female executives in healthcare”, with Director, Sam Leighton-Smith and Senior Associate | Third Sector Practice Abigail Hobden-Bada participating.

In a sector where the vast majority of employees are women, the executive boards of UK care businesses continue to be dominated by men. With a handful of exceptions, most C-suite positions across independent health and social care businesses are occupied by individuals with similar experience, skill-set and gender.

The homogeneity of the management talent in the market is a problem for the sector – and one that is rarely discussed openly – which is why HealthInvestor magazine and specialist search consultancy Compass Executives are hosting a round table discussion to debate the issue.

Featuring many of the leading female executives in the sector, the discussion will consider the implications of the lack of diversity at board level. The debate will also discuss whether the gender imbalance at executive level creates a disconnect between the front line and the board room.

Questions and issues to be considered will include:

  • Defining values: What qualities or ‘points of difference’ can female executives bring to leadership roles?
  • Board representation: To what extent are women under-represented at board level? What steps should be taken to re-balance the situation?
  • Developing the next generation: How can the care sector make the most of the potential management talent in its ranks? Or how can the sector entice strong female leaders into care businesses?
