Tarquin Bennett-Coles

Director - Life Sciences Practice

Tarquin is senior executive search specialist who is deeply networked within the life science industry. His focus is on senior leadership roles across the sector, from biotech, pharma, medtech, and diagnostics companies to life science service businesses and healthcare consultancies, NFPs and start-ups. Tarquin has handled hundreds of complex senior assignments across the C-suite, general management, market access, HEOR, R&D, digital health, data science, drug discovery, competitive and business intelligence, medical affairs, and clinical development.

He has been involved in many high-profile hires including the CEO for the global vaccine non-governmental organisation CEPI (Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations).

Prior to joining Compass Carter Osborne, Tarquin held senior roles in life science boutique search firms. His career has also included successfully supporting AstraZeneca as Global Talent Scout for its Innovative Medicines and Early Development (IMED) Biotech Unit and biologics business units.

He has BEd (Hons) degree from Homerton College, University of Cambridge, He is an accomplished communicator who chairs industry panels on talent attraction and retention, EDI and careers. He has also been a regular guest on the Royal Pharmaceutical Society podcasts and written articles and blogs for the Pharmaceutical Physician Journal, Pharma times, Phamafile and other industry publications.

For over 15 years, Tarquin supported, pro-bono, postgraduates for the Cambridge University Master’s programmes, firstly in Bioscience Enterprise and then for the Therapeutics Science programme. Since 2023 he has supported MBA and EMBA students with a healthcare or life science focus at the Cambridge Judge Business School.

Tarquin is a trained STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths) and SIP (Science Industry Partnership) Ambassador and a mentor for the Homerton Changemakers programme. His active involvement in mentoring life science professionals and postgraduates reflects Tarquin’s reputation as a valued contact who helps executives manage their careers. He is regularly consulted on the skills and knowledge required for specific roles and for corporate benchmarking exercises.

Tarquin is an advisor to Little Bean Journey, a charity that helps companies provide fertility information and support as part of their benefits structure. He is also a volunteer and advocate for Beacon for Life Sciences, a rare disease charity, Cambridge Rape Crisis Centre and the school age STEM charity Form the Future.

Tarquin is a qualified personal safety and martial arts instructor with multiple black belts and international competitive fighting experience. He has also given blood over 93 times and is looking forward to reaching 100 donations in the next couple of years.
