In the UK it operates 9 hospitals with a turnover of circa £60m. It is owned by Moonray Healthcare, the biomedical investment arm of Fidelity International.

It is the only private network of hospitals in the UK dedicated to ophthalmology and rated by many independent forums as the most trusted brand in the market.

Reason and Purpose

Given structural change in the business, Optegra sought two new Hospital Directors who could could drive quality, efficiency and profitability.

The ideal candidate would display a track record of driving improvement within an organisation of similar complexity and possess the commercial, interpersonal and change management skills to bring immediate impact.

Why Compass Executives?

After failed attempts at recruiting to the posts (both internally & via contingency recruitment agencies), Compass Executives were mandated to find a solution which others couldn’t. Optegra’s Global CEO was cited as saying Compass Executives “understood our desired candidate profile, the market and ability to attract talent”.

Search process / methodology

As Optegra’s need was so pressing, the brief was executed with real pace. After two weeks of headhunting (predominantly through the use of our extensive network), six individuals were interviewed by Compass Executives (three for each post) and shortlisted for consideration.

Outcome

A two stage interview was conducted in which Optegra’s Global CEO initially asked to see just one individual for each position at final stage. Such was the calibre both interviews resulted in an offer with one individual being managed through a counter offer process in order to attain.
